Reiki is the Japanese art of spiritual, energetic healing discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui which is performed by the practitioner laying or hovering their hands over the client or over long distances. Reiki is not affiliated or a part of any religion; it is spiritual in nature.
Rei is Japanese for Universal Life
Ki is Japanese for Energy
Reiki therefore translates to “Universal Life Energy”
Reiki is not a complicated practice nor is it something that is difficult to attain. We all have reiki energy flowing through us. In fact, this entire earth is permeated by reiki energy because it is the life force we are all made of.
As a Reiki Master I am attuned to all the frequencies of reiki, and I am therefore able to act as a channel for this healing energy. While performing a reiki session, I am not actually doing the healing instead I am allowing myself to be a channel for you. With that being said, if you are considering a reiki service, I would be honored to be able to be that channel of healing for you! Reiki sessions can be in person or from a distance. Since reiki energy permeates all beings and life on this earth, reiki energy transcends all space and time. Therefore, distance sessions, although some prefer the in person experience, are just as effective.
Reiki sessions can be used to heal, balance, and charge a client’s chakras, heal physical ailments, heal mental/emotional problems, improve sleep, reduce stress, increase blood circulation, and clear energy blockages in the body. Everyone’s “ki”, energy, should be strong and free-flowing. When any one of our seven energy centers, chakras, are blocked, underactive, or overactive it can cause physical, mental, and emotional problems. To read more about the seven chakras Click Here. Reiki can help to heal and release these blockages as well as charge and activate the chakras. Scientifically, during a reiki session the energy that emanates from the practitioners hands produce a significantly larger bio magnetic reading (7-10Hz – Theta and Alpha range).
In 2007, A study published in Diabetes Care showed that Reiki is an effective treatment for the pain related to diabetic neuropathy in which patients that received reiki had significantly reduced pain! Additionally, clients that have diabetes and wish to receive reiki are advised to monitor their insulin levels in the coming days because reiki has been proven to decrease the body’s need for more insulin. The American Diabetes Association has also stated in articles that reiki and other energy healing techniques are suggested because their benefits have been supported by research and there are few side affects.
During a reiki session, many clients report different things. Some report that they feel a sense of deep relaxation, seeing colors, feeling sensations, astral travel, and some may have deeply spiritual experiences. You might even fall asleep! After the reiki session, some may feel relaxed and notice the signs of reiki energy immediately while others may take the next 24 to 48 hours to feel the effects.
After a session, for the next 24-48 hours, you will begin to experience healing reactions. It is recommended to drink a tall glass of water to ground yourself after the session and to continue to keep yourself hydrated especially for the next 24 to 48 hours. When emotions are coming up to be released whether happy, sad, angry, etc. allow them flow naturally. The reiki energy is flowing through your body clearing any blockages and old traumas that have built up in your body. By allowing these emotions to flow, you are helping yourself along in this healing process. And, of course, be sure to give yourself a little extra TLC during this time! Go easy on yourself! You may find that you want to spend more alone time or be with nature. Whatever feels right: do that!
I would encourage you to journal about your emotions and reactions after your session and in the coming days to track your progress. If you wish to continue to receive reiki services, these notes can help you decide what your goals for reiki are, and you can share them with me as you go forward. It is also great to look back on past entries and see how much you have grown!
