Christ Series: Pray Always. (Luke 21:36)

Prayer. When I was younger I used to think I wasn’t allowed to pray for myself so I only prayed for others. I thought that prayer had to be formal or done in a church or kneeling. Prayer is simply a conversation with God (Higher Power, Spirit, Goddess etc. whichever you would like to refer to). You can unload your burdens, make requests, or even just talk about your day. I love talking to God in prayer about everything and anything. When I feel like there is no one I can speak to, I know that God always understands and has an ear to lend.

I pray all the time whether I am praying through my writing, while lying in bed, or even at my desk at work. Prayer can be however you want it to be. Prayer is an important part of life because it keeps us connected to the source. You’d be surprised how many problems can be solved with prayer. When we look for/ask for answers, we have them given to us. If I’m being honest, in the past I have said “Oh, this prayer hasn’t been answered! I don’t know what’s going on!” That was never true. Most of time time I didn’t like the answer I was getting whether it was direct or through encounters throughout my life. I didn’t and wasn’t ready to understand His plan for me so I ran from it. I laugh at myself now because I had no idea the joys that were in store for me. My struggles always built me up to come out as my best self.. and to continue growing forward!
I decided to take a glimpse at this specific passage in Luke before writing this. “Pray Always” is a summary. The verse talks about “staying alert” and “escaping horrors” which I take to mean being spiritually vigilant and challenges (maybe horrors.. hey who knows). Jesus is reminding us that when we keep in contact with the source we are able to better navigate the challenges and difficulties that life throws at us. When we pray, we nourish our spirit and become more aware of not only ourselves and divine connection but how we connect with the rest of the world. I’ve found that when I pray more I am better able to handle what life throws at me, but when I am not connecting to the source it seems the smallest of challenges can knock me on my feet and have me seeing stars.
Today, say a prayer. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or formal. Whether your God is Jesus Christ, Goddess, Spirit, Gaia etc., it could even just be a shout out to them to “check in.” Over time, maybe that prayer will grow, and in the future you can build a stronger more consistent connection. I believe that God is everywhere and apart of all of us.. every fiber of this universe. Nonetheless, I always need to stay in touch. Jesus has and is always a comfort to me, and I know my prayers are always heard and answered. Are they always answered in the way I like? Nope. God knows the desires of my heart, but He knows what is up ahead and what is truly best for me
Praise God when the sun is shining, and praise God through the storm. Remember, sometimes God stops the storm. Other times, God allows the storm to rage. Yet, God always comforts the child in its midst.
You are God’s beautiful child. Perfectly and wonderfully made.
